![]() 10th Street Oh, the life of an artist. What I've had to do for money and love. This mural is in the 300 block of 10th street S.W. Calgary. When I took on this commission I didn't realize what I was about to experience. Art is all about learning right? I learned to trust swing stage scaffolding and to watch where I stepped. When you paint from a swing stage you have to paint gently because if you push too hard with the brush you will move away from the wall. This was painted in the late fall when the weather was good. I wasn't able to paint until about 2 in the afternoon. This gave the wall (west facing) time to warm up. I would paint after the sun went down if the temperature was above 3 degrees Celsius. The city lights gave me enough light to continue painting. Painting at night created 2 problems, one was I kept forgetting that I was in the air and not to step off the platform. The other problem was the lights of the cars below kept entering my peripheral vision causing a distraction. I loved painting this mural but was relieved when it was finished. |
